Flamenco Music and the Flute: Flamenco singer and flutist Alfonso Cid, with guitarist Guillermo Guillén, will introduce a selection of traditional Flamenco songs and rhythms, and will show how the flute can be incorporated into this Spanish art form.

Synopsis:

A theatrical experience of Music and dance inspired by Federico Garcia Lorca’s Spirit. FEDERICO G. LORCA (1898-1936)

The Universe of Garcia Lorca will guide this performance into the dances, poems and songs from the traditional Spanish songbook.

This performance shows a diverse variety of Spanish dances such as escuela bolera, stylized dance, flamenco and folklore dance that represents a wide artistic spectrum in this field. The audience will appreciate a lot of cultural Spanish items such as classical castanets, folk castanets, Spanish fan, mantón

de manila or bata de cola.

The powerful music played by guitar, piano, percusion, flute and voice shows the Spanish roots as well as more modern expressions that come from the tradition. This experience will transport the viewer to a special trip to Spain full of emotion, beauty and passion.

Pedro Cortes comes from a family of Spanish Gypsy guitarists and began his studies with his father and the esteemed Flamenco guitarist Sabicas. Having toured professionally since the age of 17, he is gaining international recognition as a soloist and composer. He has premiered his work En la oscuridad de las minas at the Teatro Albeniz in Madrid, he had works premiered by the Carlota Santana Spanish Dance Company at the Joyce Theater in New York. He has two books on Flamenco, El Dron del Faraon and Cruzando el Charco, published by the American Institute of Guitar. Cortes was commissioned by the Coen Brothers to compose music for the film Paris Je T'Aime. He also wrote music for a children's program on HBO called Fairy tale for Every Child.

In an enchanting performance brought to the stage, flamenco and hip hop unite to adapt the 12th century Persian poem of the same name. This dark, moving, and humorous story will bring together hip hop artist Darrius Strong along with original music performed by international flamenco composer and guitarist Juanito Pascual.
