Now in its thirteenth year, Romance de la Guitarra has become a Valentine’s tradition for hundreds of music lovers. Acclaimed guitarist Daniel Salazar, Jr., a favorite of Connecticut audiences, returns with his ensemble of international musicians and guest dancers in a spectacular program of music and dance. This special concert will include romantic Spanish guitar selections, and will feature original music from Daniel Salazar’s highly popular repertoire combining elements of Flamenco, Latin and world rhythms, all with a classic Spanish guitar influence. Highlights of the program include alluring Flamenco selections with special guests, Flamenco singing sensation Alfonso Cid from Spain and Flamenco dancer Yohanna Escamilla. Romance De La Guitarra will also include beautifully crafted arrangements of Spanish selections such as Granada by Lara, Leyenda by Albeniz and Danza Ritual Del Fuego by Falla. Also performing will be The Daniel Salazar Ensemble, an outstanding group of internationally renowned musicians: Esteban Arrufat from Puerto Rico playing Latin Percussion, flautist Gonzalo Cortes from Chile, Roberto Clavijo from Chile playing charango (Latin American string instrument), zampoña (pan flute) and percussion, Rex Denton on trumpet, bassist Rudi Weeks, flamenco-fusion guitarist Daniel Salazar III, Andre Balazs and Abraham Sanchez from Venezuela on keyboards, and violinist Fernando Vizcayno from Mexico. Also joining the ensemble will be virtuoso guitarist Lorena Garay from Puerto Rico, who will also be performing solo selections on the program. Daniel Salazar’s style fuses the traditional Spanish guitar with contemporary and world music sounds as well as classical elegance. Known to Connecticut audiences for his highly popular Guitar Under the Stars concerts, this renowned musician has appeared in many distinguished international venues throughout the U.S., Latin America and Europe. Daniel is the recipient of several prestigious awards including the 2011 Public Service Award and a 2013 Official Citation from The State of Connecticut’s House of Representatives for leadership in music and artistic vision, and a 2013 Proclamation from the Office of The Mayor declaring “Daniel Salazar Day” in The City of Hartford.
