The Val Ramos Flamenco Ensemble lives up to the finest traditions of Flamenco. Its repertoire and performances capture the essence of this musical culture and yet add new expression in keeping with its dynamic nature. The ensemble performs as both an instrumental group as well as in conjunction with traditional “cuadro Flamenco” artists that include a singer, dancers, guitarists, and a percussionist. Traditional dance costumes and Flamenco “cante” (song) textures meet modern harmonies and instrumentation for a colorful and most enjoyable musical and dance experience.

Los Nuyores return to Barzakh for an intimate evening of live flamenco, featuring:

Elisabet Torras Aguilera is a dancer, choreographer, and educator born and raised in Barcelona, Spain, specializing in Flamenco and Spanish dance. Her dynamic career has included collaborations with renowned companies such as the Manolo Carrasco Flamenco Company and Javier Latorre’s Somorrostro Dansa Flamenca. In the U.S., she has toured nationally with Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca, Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, Omayra Amaya Flamenco Dance Company, A Palo Seco Flamenco Company.

Alfonso Cid is a flamenco singer from Sevilla Spain. He has had engagements at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall, Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival, Town Hall, London’s Royal Albert Hall and Sala Covarrubias in Mexico City with the great Flamenco dancer Pilar Rioja, and Mexico’s Palacio de Bellas Artes with Flamenco dancer María Elena Amaya. He has also worked with all the significant artists in the Flamenco ambiance throughout the USA, performing and touring in the Tri-State area, Washington DC, San Francisco, Portland (Oregon), Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, Kansas City, Louisville and Lexington (Kentucky), Seattle, Toronto, Ottawa, British Columbia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom and Spain.

Dustin Carlson is a guitarist from New York. He has performed throughout the world and has worked with notable flamenco artists such as, Isaac Tovar, Juan Murube, Elisabet Torras, Juan Pedro Jiménez, and Alfonso Cid. He also has a career as a jazz guitarist and has worked and collaborated with artists such as Matt Mitchell, Anna Webber, Kate Gentile and many others.

Barzakh Café also offers a curated selection of small plates and drinks. Guests are encouraged to arrive early, ease into the evening, and enjoy something from the kitchen or bar before the program begins. Happy Hour All Year.
