Calvin has recently relocated to the U.S. after 20 years of living and working as a professional guitarist in Madrid, Spain. He has performed at some of the most prestigious theatres in the U.S. as well as internationally including RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL and LINCOLN CENTER in New York City, TEATRO NACIONAL in Mexico City and TEATRO MADRID in Spain where his performances have enjoyed enthusiastic critical acclaim (new york times, village voice, etc.). television appearances include the tonight show with jay leno, good morning america and the regis and kathy lee show. He has worked as musical director and composer for numerous companies including Suite Espanola, Carlota Santana Flamenco Vivo and Maria Benitez Teatro Flamenco. He is a regular performer and instructor for Festival Flamenco, Albuquerque. Calvin worked as composer and co-producer on“El Pintor”, in Madrid, Spain and “Ni Mucho Ni Poco” in N.M. In 2014 , he was asked to collaborate with Spanish pop icon PABLO ALBORAN on the recording of “Terral”, the 5 time platinum selling record which enjoyed 11 straight weeks as Spain’s number 1 selling record and was nominated for a Grammy. Most recently he was working as guest artist instructor and composer/arranger in the Theatre and Dance Department at the University of New Mexico.

Alfonso Cid was born and raised in Sevilla, the heartland of flamenco music. He also had the opportunity of attending the activities of one of the most significant flamenco clubs in Andalusia, the Peña Flamenca Torres-Macarena in Seville. Alfonso has toured extensively throughout the USA, Latin America, Israel and Europe, and has just toured Spain last February of 2018 with the Jazz/Flamenco band New Bojaira by pianist Jesús Hernández from Granada, Spain.

Luis Ossa, Colombian percussionist born and raised in Medellín where he studied music and music management. He has been working as a percussionist for more than 15 years. Since 2005 he has immersed himself in Flamenco cajón playing, specializing in the accompaniment of Flamenco song and dance with masters such as Israel Heredia, Israel Suarez “El Piraña” and Ramón Porrina. Studio BFPL: Encounters transforms the unique interior spaces of Brookfield Place with intimate and unique live music performances and social distance. The entire experience is 20 minutes long. Up to six people who have traveled together can expect to be entertained by these captivating experiences, with some of Arts Brookfield’s long-standing partners, including the New York Guitar Festival, Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra, Live Sounds and more. Your group of up to 6 people will be captivated by a surprise musical performer, an encounter you will not forget!

Registration opens the Monday before each show at 3pm.

Schedule of performances and tickets:

Friday; October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; November 6, 13 and 20 The entire experience will last 20 minutes and is scheduled between 5 and 9 pm EST.

The following elements are involved in each of the performances:

– Interactive element. At the beginning of each performance, the audience will choose one image from three that represent the elements air, water and earth. Depending on the photograph chosen, the artists will adapt their repertoire and interpret their piece, taking inspiration from the element chosen by the audience.

– Empty spaces full of art. Each show will take place in one of the commercial spaces that have been left empty as a result of the pandemic. Below, we include a photo.

– More performances and shorter duration of them. Instead of performing a long piece for a small group, we will perform five shows with time off between them, in order to reach more people.

– Educational program for families By means of a system of carpets separated by the safety distance, it will be possible to locate the families that attend the educational program. In this way, we will be able to reach more people. Below is a photo.

Juana Cala, Flamenco dancer, and choreographer has been performing and teaching Flamenco in the United States and Europe for more than 20 years. She performed as a soloist in the María Benitez Dance Company under the direction of Mario Maya, and then went on to form her own company, “Ensemble Flamenco Juana Cala”, touring some of Europe’s most prestigious theatres for 16 years, with much critical acclaim. In 1999 Juana was a professor of Flamenco in a Professional Arts Program for the European Union (a European equivalent to “The High School of Performing Arts”). She has been a resident Spanish Dance Professor in various universities across the United States. Juana has been a lead teaching artist for Flamenco Vivo for 10 years.

Juan Pedro Jiménez is a native flamenco guitarist from Cádiz, Spain. He has toured throughout Spain in settings from the most traditional to educational demonstrations and theater productions. He has recently moved to the USA and has integrated rapidly in the New York flamenco scene.

Alfonso Cid was born and raised in Sevilla, the heartland of flamenco music. He also had the opportunity of attending the activities of one of the most significant flamenco clubs in Andalusia, the Peña Flamenca Torres-Macarena in Seville. Alfonso has toured extensively throughout the USA, Latin America, Israel and Europe, and has just toured Spain last February of 2018 with the Jazz/Flamenco band the New York Bojaira Project by pianist Jesús Hernández from Granada, Spain.
