This workshop will introduce participants to flamenco cante (song) with an emphasis on structure of the verses, phrasing and rhythm (compás) and application to flamenco dance and choreography. This course is excellent for dancers who wish to strengthen their understanding of how to work with the cante. You do not need to sing; you only need to dance and play “palmas” (hand-clap) in this course. No previous knowledge of the Spanish language is required. Printed material will be handed out in the class with translations of the lyrics and the structure of the dances. It is highly recommended to bring a recording device to this class.
